5 Ways Lighting Can Enhance the Look of Your Event

You have a venue and have been working with a florist / designer for your upcoming wedding but how can lighting change the look of my event? This is something that many couples today face as they are not aware of the technological advances in lighting since the early days of chunky looking fixtures and blinding light. Today’s LED technology can change the look of a room and create a warm and inviting ambience. Here are five ways that lighting can enhance your wedding or special event:

Up-lighting is an event lighting design created with an array of floor-based lighting fixtures placed around the perimeter of a room focused on walls, points of interest, architectural details, or any other elements of a room or event that you would want an amazing highlight of color placed upon.  This is a great way to showcase your event’s color theme and can accentuate the total event design. Up-lighting is also a relatively inexpensive way of changing the look of your room and design.

Pin-Spots are focused beams of warm white light projected onto tabletop focal points, such as centerpieces, wedding cakes, stage elements and many other wedding related items. Pin-spots highlight these elements, making them really stand out in photographs and in person as the lighting in the room may be dimmed for effect. This is again a relatively inexpensive way of enhancing the look of your event. It is certainly not something required for every centerpiece but wouldn’t it be nice for your more expensive centerpieces to look great in photos?

Stage Wash

Many weddings now days feature a stage with a sweetheart table or VIP table. Without lighting this stage can appear to be dark and hard to see from other areas of the banquet room. Stage Wash lighting is an effect where a broad beam of lighting is used to generally light up a larger area such as a stage. Today’s technology (Lekos) can wash a stage with lighting to enhance the properties of the stage and can be dimmed and even shuttered to only highlight key elements of the stage.

Customized Monogram

A custom monogram can be a family crest or a bride & groom’s initials that is then focused via light onto a wall or dance floor. LED Technology has taken this from a simple white light monogram to multi-colored monograms and designs that could not have been created in the past. Some companies including Abricoe offer a program where the bride & groom can create their very own customized monogram and can even use it on their invitations and menu cards.

Intelligent Lighting

Intelligent Lighting is something that has really developed in the last 10 years. This is where you can have programmed lighting elements featured on walls, floors, ceilings and other elements in the banquet room. Their automated mechanism allows the lights to move and create complicated and colorful effects the event as different activities are happening. A very new trend in this field is Digital Walling or Digital Mapping. So say a bride comes to us and says her concept is Roses & Diamonds, we can turn an entire wall into a sea of roses and diamonds by creating a map of this image to fit within a certain element at the banquet facility such as a wall. It can also be changed throughout the event making it multi-functional. It can start as a seating chart projected on the wall and then can transition into something else such as a monogram or slow moving backdrop.  The possibilities are endless.
